Sometime Last Year

lyrics

I see fire in the bones of the building
and I feel at home in a way that I don't like
Waking dreams fill my mind while I'm riding
Now I'm scared of my friends who are watching in the night

I crash into the sign outside the store that has the craft beer
I flash the man a thumb to say that everything is cool
As I'm checking out, he tells me what he really thinks about women
So I grab a book of matches, later leave one by the school

Okay, I'm advising you to change your answering machine
Anyway
Childlike wonder?
A child might wonder where the protagonist is
where it's hidden like a peppermint
I want a mint now
So much want and never getting,
and that's how things get burned down
and other things get broken
how cats die
and flowers die
and love dies
and it's all stuffed inside the corpse of something, or someone
burnt to anonymity
It's ugly in a really sad way you can't talk about
and scary in a weird way that makes you think about something else
but it was still good to feel the sort of eruption of emotions, I guess, after a while
Or maybe it was adrenaline
Either one of them are held close
Only for a second
How have you been?
